As the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics are released, communities across West Mercia continue to benefit from falling levels of crime. The latest figures show overall recorded crime fell by 2% in the last year, that’s down 13% since 2022. The key headlines show: 30% fewer thefts from people, meaning fewer residents having personal belongings such as phones, wallets or bags stolen 21% fewer vehicle offences, with fewer people experiencing the distress and inconvenience of vehicle theft or damage 11% fewer public order offences, helping communities feel safer in public spaces 7% fewer burglaries of homes, meaning fewer families have faced the disruption and emotional impact of having their home broken into While these reductions are encouraging, challenges remain with some crime types seeing an increase, including robbery, drug offences, and sexual offences. However, it is important to understand the context behind the data. In many cases, proactive policing activity can lead to more arrests and increased recorded crime.
